Deborah Saunders-Weech
Deborah Saunders-Weech is a Bahamian artist and former banker. She received her early education in Nassau and studied Economics and Visual Arts at The University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada. She and her family lived in Bonn, Germany, for the past five years returning to Nassau earlier this year.
Debbie had an interest in Art from a very early age and incorporates her love of the Visual Arts into everything she does. She enjoys experimenting with different mediums and is most fulfilled with pencil drawing, rendering form and texture with bold lines and shading, evident in her “Mother and Child” piece.
While in Germany, she broadened her skills by studying watercolour and jewelry making and visited numerous art museums, being particularly impressed by the Van Gogh collection at the Kröller-Müller Museum.
Debbie considers herself a somewhat meticulous and impatient artist. She believes we are surrounded by the beauty of visual arts; even in our hairstyles, dress and color-coordination, and our make up. She feels some of the greatest artists are women who simultaneously drive and paint their faces.
Debbie feels her only limitation is her mortality and her overwhelming challenge to bring a multitude of ideas to life, amid life’s constant distractions.
As an artist, Debbie competes with herself.
